James B. Maust, son of the late Bruce Maust and Lizzie Fike was born on March 23, 1902 near Sanborn, Iowa. He was next to the youngest in a family of ten children. Very early in life, when but two and half years old he was bereft of his mother and at the age of seventeen, of his father.

On February 24, 1926 he entered into holy wedlock with Miss Viola Wagner, and which would have culminated in their fifteenth wedding anniversary on February 24,of the present year. God blessed them with the birth of three sons, one of whom He chose to take to Himself again immediately after birth. With the exception of only two years, he spent his entire life on the place where he was born. For one year he worked out as a hired hand and the first year after his marriage he rented a farm east of Sanborn. Thereafter until his passing he occupied together with his family the home place located five miles north of Sanborn. Last fall, he came down with what seemed to be the flu, which developed into pneumonia. He quietly and peacefully went to sleep, his calm death occuring February 15, 1941.

There remains to survive his early passing, his dear wife, who lovingly attended him during his last illness, his two sons, Dale and Merle, and four brothers and four sisters, namely: Bert Maust, Toronto, S.D.; Howard Maust, Horace, N.D.; Archie Maust, Conner, Mont.; Robert Maust, Lansing, Ia.; Mrs. Wm. Carpenter, Fultonville, N.Y. and Mrs. George Rubsam, Mrs. Wm. Brendle and Mrs. John Pithan, all of Sanborn, Ia. Funeral services were conducted Tuesday afternoon in St. John's Lutheran church by the Rev. C.G. Meyer. Burial was in Roseland Cemetery.
