Bert Maust, 66, Watertown, S.D., a former South Shore resident, died Tuesday, Febr 3, in a Watertown hospital following a heart attack. Mr. Maust moved to Watertown a year ago from South Shore. He had lived there for three years and was a former resident of the Brookings and Toronto vicinities. He was born Nov. 29, 1886 in Black Hawk county, Iowa, son of Bruce Maust and Lizzie Dike. He married Eva Aljets at Brookings on Jan. 14,1938. A member of the Codington Co. Post of the American Legion, he served overseas in the army during world war 1. Surviving are his wife, Eva; four sisters, Mrs. Geo.,Rubsam (Eliza) of Swanville, Minn.; Mrs. Cora Brendle and Mrs. Sally Pithan, Sanborn, Ia.; Mrs. Wm. Carpenter(Alice) of Fonda, N.Y.; three brothers, Robert Maust, Lansing, Ia., Howard Maust, Horace, N.D., and Archie Maust, of Spokane, Wash. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, one having died in infancy and James on Febr. 15,1941. Funeral services were held at 1:30 at the Shaw-Messer chapel and at the Lutheran church. Source: The Sanborn Pioneer, Thursday, February 12th, 1953
