Beatrice Koostra, age 92, of Ocheyedan, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, February 25, 2010, at Hill Top Care Center in Spirit Lake, Iowa.

Beatrice Koostra, daughter of Gerrit and Hattie (Post) Koostra, was born October 3, 1917 in Ocheyedan, Iowa and went to be with her Lord on February 25, 2010. She lived her childhood in rural Ocheyedan, and graduated from Ocheyedan High School in 1934. After attending summer school in Cedar Falls, Iowa, she taught country school south of Ocheyedan for 1 years.

Bea loved her career as a nurse. She joined the American Red Cross after graduation from nurses training and served in the Army Nurse Corp during World War II from 1941-1946. Following her discharge she worked at Hartley Medical Center and Hand Hospital for 27 years. She spent 8 years at the Spirit Lake Hospital and was also a Public Health Nurse for Osceola County.

After her retirement she continued to volunteer for Hospice.

Bea and her sister, Theresa, lived on the family farm on the south edge of Ocheyedan. She loved flowers, gardening, sewing, reading and crocheting.

Bea was devoted to her family, friends and anyone else who needed her. She was a gracious hostess and her home was always open.

Bea lived the last 2 years of her life at Hilltop Care Center in Spirit Lake, Iowa.

Bea had a deep faith in God that manifested through a life of service to others. She was a lifelong member of Ocheyedan Christian Reformed Church, and a member of the American Legion Post 326 of Ocheyedan.

Bea was preceded in death by her parents, 4 brothers, Andrew, Walter, William, and Richard Koostra, and 2 sisters, Theresa Koostra and Jeanette McQuown.

She is survived by 15 nieces and nephews, 49 great nieces and nephews, 67 great great nieces and nephews, and 3 great great great nieces and nephews.
