Ocheyedan, IowaGayle LaVon Johnson was born on February 20, 1925, in Hartley, Iowa. She was the daughter of Delbert and Leona (Dahnke) Welch. She lived her youth in Hartley, Iowa, where she attended a country school and graduated from high school. She attended Buena Vista College in Storm Lake, Iowa, where she received her teacher's degree. Gayle taught in a country school for two years.
She was united in marriage to Donald W. Johnson of Ocheyedan, Iowa, on May 20, 1945, in Hartley. They lived in rural Ocheyedan, where they farmed and owned and operated a trucking business. In 1980, they retired and moved to Ocheyedan.
Don passed away on March 10, 1992.
Gayle was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church in Ocheyedan, where she was a member of the Ladies Aid and enjoyed making quilts for mission projects.
She enjoyed doing crafts, making candy, baking (angel food cakes), cooking and canning.
Gayle passed away on Tuesday, May 12, 2009, at the Osceola Community Hospital in Sibley.
Those left to cherish her memories are her children: DeVon V. and husband Terry Sr. Troutner of Hancock, IA, and her daughter: Amber Troutner and special friend Jeff and her children: Spencer and Lexus, step grandchildren: Terry Troutner Jr. and Robert Troutner; DruLene V. and husband Roy Meyer of Ocheyedan, IA, and their children: Bradley and wife Karen Meyer and their children: Brandon and Braden, Brian and wife Angela Meyer and their son: Jacob, Randy Meyer; and family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband: Donald; and her parents.
