Imogene Violet Tillotson was born on August 31, 1922, in Boone, Iowa, the daughter of Paul and Violet (Ericson) Nelson. When in the fourth grade she moved with her family to Sibley. She had skipped a grade in her country school, and was now the youngest member of her class. She was attracted to a blonde haired, blue eyed boy, in a blue sweater, her first day in class at Sibley. He had recently moved to Sibley from Spirit Lake, his name: Harry Tillotson.
Imy was united in marriage to Harry in 1940 and they celebrated 69 years together before Harry's death in 2010. They lived all those years in the same home. To this union were born six children. While Harry was in the military service, Imy worked as a telephone operator. She gained great satisfaction as a homemaker and mother. Imy oversaw many renovations of her home over the years, including the removal of several walls.
She was a good seamstress, and enjoyed cooking for and entertaining her family and friends. One of her specialties was divinity which she shared with others in times of loss and on special occasions. She always remembered her children and grandchildren on their birthdays with cards. In her later years she worked with Harry for a few years receiving and selling eggs. She had the title of "bookkeeper".
Imy was an active member of the First United Methodist Church. She had several roles: Sunday School teacher, President of the United Methodist Women, Circle leader, and provider and server of food for multiple events. She was an active member of Chapter CE PEO, a founding member in 1942 of the Sewing Club, a member of the Sibley Golf and Country Club where she scored a hole-in-one, (a score card holder in honor of Imy and Harry is located near the tee box on #2 at the golf course), a member of the Osceola County Historical Society, a member of several Bridge Clubs, a member of the Park Board, a bowling league member, and she always volunteered to solicit her neighborhood for heart and cancer drives.
Those left to cherish her memories are her five children: Nancy (Steve) Pohlman of Dakota Dunes, SD, Tim (Jan) Tillotson of Sibley, IA, Becky (Craig) Ness of Kuwait City, Kuwait, Joyce (Steve) Voss of Sibley, IA, Julie Tillotson of Minneapolis, MN; daughter-in-law, Renee Tillotson of Fairmont, MN; 16 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; one brother, Robert Nelson of Spencer, IA; one sister, Anita Billings of Scottsdale, AZ.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Todd Tillotson; two brothers: Norman Nelson and Dean Nelson and one sister, Joan Lane; one infant great-grandson.
