Evelyn Faye Agena, the daughter of John and Johanna (Gontjes) Schroder, was born near Melvin, IA on September 13, 1916. Her childhood years were spent in the Melvin, IA area, where she received her education. She went on to receive a certificate from a Teacher’s College in Cedar Falls, IA. After receiving her certificate to teach, Evelyn taught country school for eight years.

She was united in marriage to Joe V. Agena on June 7, 1941 at her parent’s home. The couple was blessed with the four children: Jack, Judy, Terry and Susan. Following their marriage the couple farmed near Allendorf, IA until 1958. The family then moved to a farm near May City, IA where they farmed from 1958 to 1964 when they moved to a farm north of Sanborn where they resided until 1970. Evelyn and Joe retired and moved into the town of Sanborn in 1970. Following Joe’s passing on April 29, 2004 Evelyn continued to live in Sanborn until her passing at the Sheldon Sanford Medical Center in Sheldon, IA, on Tuesday, January 1, 2013 at the age of 96.

She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Sanborn where she taught Sunday school. Evelyn enjoyed dancing, cooking and entertaining family and friends. She was an avid 4-H leader for many years.

Left to cherish her memory is her daughter: Judy Arens and her husband, Jim, of Remsen, IA; a daughter-in-law: Sally Agena of Peoria, AZ; many grandchildren and great grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, cousins other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sons, Jack and Terry; daughter: Susan; nine brothers and sisters.
