Dorothy Eileen Winkel was born to Charles and Lilly (Salzman) Whitney at Sibley, Iowa on November 21, 1918.
On May 21, 1944 she was united in marriage to Clarence Winkel at Monroe, North Carolina. Following Clarence’s discharge from Army they farmed between Sanborn and Melvin. Upon their retirement from farming in 1980 the couple made their home at Spirit Lake. In 2003 Eileen moved to Carlsbad, New Mexico to live closer to her family.
Mrs. Winkel died Sunday, December 31, 2006 at the Landsun Health Center in Carlsbad, New Mexico at 88 years of age.
Eileen was a member of the United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women. She enjoyed gardening and flowers.
Left to cherish her memory is her son Jeffrey and his wife, Louise of Sacremento, NM, granddaughter, Casey Sparks and her husband, Jay of Carlsbad, NM four great grandchildren, Kaleb, Krystyna, Michael and Micah, grandson, Curt Niendorf and wife, Kim of Mesquite, NV, five great grandchildren, Keiko, Ashley, Brayden, Aurelius and Xerxes. Survivors also include two sisters, Margaret Knapp of Loyalton, CA, and June Burke of Storm Lake, IA and one brother, Duane Whitney of Milford.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Chuck and Daryl Whitney, and three sisters, Lucille Snethen, Lillian Gaster, and Hazel Eichman.
