DIED: March 11, 2012

Tena Vogel, age 91, of Ocheyedan, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, March 11, 2012, at the Sibley Nursing and Rehab Center in Sibley.
Memorial Services will be Friday, March 16, 2012 at 11:00 A.M. at the Christian Reformed Church in Ocheyedan. Rev. Bill Van Der Heide officiating.
Graveside Services will be Friday at 9:30 A.M. at Holman Township Cemetery in Sibley. Friends and family can meet at the Andringa Funeral Home in Sibley at 9:00 A.M. to process to Holman Township Cemetery in Sibley.
Visitation will be Thursday, March 15, from 2:00 to 8:00 P.M. with the family present from 6:30 to 8:00 P.M. all at the Christian Reformed Church in Ocheyedan.
Tena Vogel was born on June 12, 1920 in Ocheyedan, Iowa. She was the daughter of David Leonard and Grace (Ferwerda) Dykstra. Her mother passed away and her father married Anna Wielenga. Tena lived her youth in rural Bigelow, Minnesota where she attended a country school.
She was united in marriage to Frank J. Vogel of Bigelow, Minnesota on January 28, 1941 at her parents' home south of Bigelow. They lived one year by Bigelow and then moved east of Ocheyedan, Iowa, where they farmed for 51 years, before moving into Ocheyedan.
After she raised her children, she worked at Campbell's Soup in Worthington for a short time. She became a Certified Nurses Assistant and later a Medical Aid. She worked at Hartley Nursing Home, Country View Manor and Sibley Nursing and Rehab. She also worked as a Home Health Aid. When she was in her late 50's, she took evening classes and received her G.E.D.
She was a member of the Christian Reformed Church in Ocheyedan since 1942, where she was a member of the Ladies Aid and Sunshine Circle.
Tena enjoyed raising chickens, gardening and watching birds. She enjoyed growing flowers, especially roses. She crocheted and learned to play music by teaching herself. Frank and Tena traveled to Duluth, Minnesota to visit their daughter and Texas and Branson, Missouri for vacations.
In 2007, Tena moved to Sibley Nursing and Rehab where she passed away on Sunday, March 11, 2012.
Those left to cherish her memories are her husband of 71 years: Frank Vogel of Ocheyedan, IA; her children: Arlynn and Elaine Vogel of Sioux Falls, SD, Marwin and Twyla Vogel of Sheldon, IA, Mary and Arnold Braaksma of Allendorf, IA, Gladys and Bill Kunze of Duluth, MN, Muriel Vogel of Sibley, IA; twelve grandchildren; twenty four great-grandchildren; two half sisters: Rheta and Chuck De Boer of Hills, MN, Judy and George Steen of Sibley, IA; two brothers-in-law: Alfred Vogel of Sheldon, IA, Cornelius Vogel of Grand Rapids, MI.
She was preceded in death by her parents; step-mother; one son: Dennis Vogel; one granddaughter: Julie Vogel; four brothers: Leonard and Alice Dykstra, Clarence and Jessie Dykstra, Tom and Gladys Dykstra, Nicky Dykstra; two sisters: Martha and Henry Gravenhof and Martha Dykstra (infant); two sisters-in-law: Etta Vogel and Rayda Vogel; one brother-in-law: Peter and wife Ellen Vogel.
