Alan Arnold Siemers was born on August 20, 1958 in Sibley, Iowa. He was the son of Arnold and Melba (Cleaveland) Siemers. He lived his youth in Ocheyedan, Iowa where he attended school and graduated from high school. He was involved in Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts. Alan was baptized in the Congregational Church in Ocheyedan and had attended the United Methodist Church in Ocheyedan. Alan married Lori Sixta of Ocheyedan, Iowa. They later divorced. In his early adulthood and marriage he enjoyed living on an acreage near Ocheyedan.

Sports were always a big part of his life. Alan played baseball and basketball from "peewee" teams through high school. He continued to be very active in sports throughout his adulthood which included bowling, golfing, fast and slow pitch softball, darts, and pool, all on many leagues and tournaments. He was a Hawkeye fan and followed all of his favorite teams in football, baseball, basketball, racing, ect. He also enjoyed fishing, camping, and some hunting and trapping. He liked baking chocolate chip cookies and holiday candy and giving his goodies to friends and family. He was a caring and giving friend to many.

Alan treasured any time he could spend with his sons which usually involved a round of golf, a trip to the bowling alley, or a day of fishing. He was also on the sidelines for their sports and school activities in their youth. Alan was the proud grandpa to his first grandson, Holden, born in September of 2011 and was anxiously looking forward to "spoiling" him.

Alan was most recently employed at the Farmers Coop Society in Melvin, Iowa. Prior to getting back into an "elevator" setting, he had worked in welding at Rosenboom in Spirit Lake, Sudenga in George, and Conveyor Company in Sibley. He gained the nickname of "Gopher" at his first place of employment, Ocheyedan Cooperative Elevator, where he was employed for the first 20 plus years. In fact many people only knew him as "Gopher". Alan will always be most fondly known or remembered by his friends and community as Gopher and Fonz.
He passed away on Saturday, March 3, 2012, at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota.

Those left to cherish his memories are his 3 sons: Joseph and wife Staci Siemers and their son: Holden of Thornton, CO, Jeffrey Siemers of Ames, IA, Jesse Richardson of Sibley, IA; 3 sisters: Cheryl and husband Ernest Langfitt of Milford, IA, Barbara Siemers of Burlington, IA, Nadine Dille and special friend Tony Hughell of Fairfield, IA; many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews; and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law, Steve Dille.
