Alyce Stevenson, age 83 of Sibley, IA died Friday, October 29, 2010 at her home in Sibley.

Funeral service will be 2:00 PM, Tuesday, Nov. 2nd at Trinity Lutheran Church in Sibley, with Rev. Scott Meyer, officiating. Burial will follow at Holman Township Cemetery in Sibley.

Visitation will be Monday, Nov. 1st from 2:00 to 8:00PM, with the family present from 6:00 to 8:00PM at the Jurrens Funeral Home of Sibley.

Alyce Ruth (Wentler) Stevenson was born February 16, 1927 in Appleton, Minnesota, the daughter of Emra and Verna (Horton) Wentler. Alyce’s family moved to Osceola County when she was young often moved after that in various places in northwest Iowa. She attended country school for one year, near Harris. Then they lived in Ocheyedan and Sibley.

After leaving her parents home, Alyce lived with her sister and worked various waitressing jobs and lived in many places throughout the United States. She moved to Oregon in 1947. Alyce was married to Jack Stevenson on January 16, 1947 and later divorced. In 1954 she moved back to Sibley, IA and Alyce worked at Brinkman Egg and Poultry, the Hick Egg Plant, the Palace Café, Sibley Bakery and Chase Bag, retiring in 1992.

She continued to live in Sibley and was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. She enjoyed playing cards, needle work, crossword puzzles and spending time with her family. She also collected Roosters and Owl figurines.

She is survived by three children, LeRoy (Karen) Stevenson of Sibley, IA, Belinda Stevenson of Primghar, IA and Ronald Stevenson of Jessup, MD; three grandchildren, Jaysen (Sara) Stevenson of Brookings, SD, Jodi (Mark) Lidtke of Sibley, IA and Jill Stevenson of Sioux Falls, SD; two great-grandchildren, Kiley and Zoe Stevenson of Brookings, SD; two sisters, Alvera Balster of Adrian, MN and Alvina Breuer of Sibley, IA; and many nieces, nephews and other extended family.

She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Darvin, Raymond and Lawrence Wentler; four sisters, Lorraine Grubaugh, Gladys Brumley, Doris Allard and Geraldine McCarty.
