Ted Smith, age 51, of Ashton, Iowa died in Lyon County, Iowa, as a result of a tragic motorcycle accident on Friday, July 30, 2010

Ted was born on August 22, 1958 in Hartley,Iowa, the son of Gordy and LaVonne (Schroeder) Smith.

He attended and graduated from Sheldon High School in 1976. He then attended WIT in Sioux City for one year where he studied welding and electronics.

He was married to Shirley Van Meeteren for more than 20 years. Ted loved riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle and hunting with dogs.

Ted will be missed by his family which includes his father Gordy of Archer, Iowa, his mother LaVonne Van Essen of Edgerton, Minnesota, a brother Steve Smith and his wife Angie of Sheldon, Iowa, his sisters Peggy Jager and her husband Bob of Sheldon, Iowa and Rebecca Swartz and her husband Jason of Sheldon, Iowa. He is also survived by 12 nieces and nephews and 17 great-nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a brother Dennis Smith, his step-father Richard (Card) Van Diepen and his fiancee Debbie Kent.
