Margaret Elizabeth

HOFFEDITZ SP, FELKNER

I am looking for the history of my grandmother whom I believe was on an orphan train. Her name is Margaret Elizabeth Hoffeditz (sp?). She was adopted by the Jesse Felkner family in Johnson County, Iowa City at 10 years of age approximately 1910. Mr. Felkner was a grain dealer and well known in the area. My grandmother graduated as an RN from the University of Iowa in 1920. I want to know her genealogy as she came to America with an unknown relative from Germany, perhaps a grandmother. She apparently lived in New York on arrival, as there is a time lapse from her arrival at Ellis Island and her appearance in Iowa at the age of 10. She was approximately four years old shen she arrived. She remembers eating oranges on the ship and hated oranges 'til the day she died. The experience was traumatic as she never divulged the circumstances of her adoption to her only daughter, my mother. Any help would be most appreciated.
