Re: New York Juvenile Asylum

NEW YORK JUVENILE ASYLUM LUKE WESTALL

Luke Barker Westall was in the NY Juv. Asylum in the 1860 census. I know a lot about him because he was taken out of it and taken to Ohio to be raised by George L. Smith. He was allowed to enter the US Army aged 15 as a musician. He went to camp, got typhus, was sent home for nursing, and died at home. I have many other details. Do you have any advice on how to get information on him from Asylum records? He had a brother, John, who ended up at the same time in Cornwall, NY, and married into a Quaker family. I descend from Luke's uncle. I have copies of Luke's enlistment records. Sincerely, Michael A. Melnick
