Wife's Gr. Grandfather

Looking for any information on my wife's gr. grandfather Daniel James Collins. The story that was told is that he left New York in 1864 and was adopted by the Shellhart family in Star City, Indiana. He was picked up in Logansport,Indiana from the orphan train and he said that he had 2 brothers and 1 sister. Any information would be appreciated.
