Page 3William Witte, 59, Dies After a Brief Illness
William Witte, 59, a resident of Fort Dodge for the past five and a half years, died late Saturday at Lutheran hospital following a short illness. Funeral services will be held Tuesday afternoon at 1:30 at the Laufersweiler funeral home with Dr. Paul Smith, pastor of the First Baptist church, officiating.
Burial will be in Indian Mound cemetery in Humboldt county.
Mr. Witte, born in New York state, moved to Paola, Kas., as a young boy. After he grew to manhood he moved to Humboldt county, iowa, and was married in Fort Dodge Nov. 24, 1916, to Miss Jennie Joenks.
The couple established a home in Humboldt county, where they remained until they moved to Fort Dodge in March of 1944. Employed as a machinist by the Horn Manufacturing company here for more than five years, Mr. Witte was a member of the A.F.L. union.
Besides his wife, Mr. Witte is survived by two sons, Arlo and Garth Witte of Fort Dodge; and four daughters, Mrs. Sanford Gordon of Fort Dodge, Mrs. William Crittenden of Stillwater, Minn., Mrs. Ernest Hoppe of Madelia, Minn., and Mrs. Ralph McGuire of Des Moines.
Twenty grandchildren, a sister, Mrs. Anna Morgan of Toronto, Kans., and several nieces and nephews also survive him. His parents preceded him in death.
