NYC birth records from the NY Foundling Home confirm that my GM Rosemary Hughes was brought to the Foundling in Feb 1883 when she was 2 weeks old by her mother Maggie Hughes. No further record of her in NYC. Family lore says she was an OTR brought to Clinton IA (date unk). IA state census 1895 has her present in the city of Clinton's 4th Ward in the family of John and Katherine Drew. She will remain with the family until she marries in 1903. Her name is given as Mae Drew. This puts her in IA sometime before 1895 but I'm trying to pin down the date. Would there be an open record of adoption in the probate court in Clinton or are adoption records closed in IA?
Any direction that could be provided would be greatly appreciated.
