Whalen Ancestry in Sanborn area

I've been clawing and searching for any information about my Whalen family line. Where I lose the trail is ancestors named Timothy and Rose Whalen. They were married in Rock Island, IL and moved to the Sanborn area. I can't find a reason for Timothy's passing OR who his parents were. I can track him back to Kentucky (was born around Ashland between 1856-1858)...however I can't find any records about him prior to him moving to Illinois to live with someone likely because his parents passed away. Happy to share my Ancestry.com tree. Just trying to find any information about him that I can.
