Mary Ann (Wentker) Hoffman McCarthy (Mother's maiden name was Richers) was born in Germany on 14 June 1867 and immigrated about 1881 and was living in the Ashton, Iowa area. She was married to Chas. Hoffman (not sure of date or when married or where) and then widowed after having 10 children (with 8 surviving in 1900) together (Dora, Tony, Carrie are some of those children.) She then married my Great Grandfather John J. McCarthy (1862-1931) on March 5, 1905 in Osceola County. They had two children - Lloyd J. McCarthy (20 Oct 1905-21 Oct 1978) and my Grandmother Lola Viola (McCarthy) Hyink (21 Aug 1907-04 Mar 1950). My Great Grandmother died 15 Aug 1946 in Sheldon, Iowa. I also found a Benjamin Wentker who had been in the Ashton area on one of the State of Iowa Census and then disappeared. The census shows that Chas Hoffman was born in Wisconsin?? I haven't made it over to Sheldon to search through the newspaper obituary to find what it may have said about other family and do not have any information on who her Mother and Father were (except for the little bit I found regarding the marriage to John McCarthy and info associated with that) or what siblings there might have been. There were only my Mom and my Aunty Jo born to Lola and they are now both gone and I can't ask them for info. Any help or insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Kathy Bopp
