Lucile Meyer passed away peacefully February 23, 2023 at the home of her daughter and husband Dennis and Diana Kessler in Storm Lake, Iowa where she has lived with them since April 2020. Lucile reached the age of 103. Lucile Emma Jurgensen was the daughter of John A. and Elizabeth (Thoms) Jurgensen. She was born in Hartford, South Dakota, and was one of five children. She moved with her parents to a farm near Calumet, Iowa at a young age. She received her education in a country school, Calumet school and Larrabee school. On March 2, 1939 she was baptized and later confirmed on March 5, 1939 at St. John Lutheran Church in Germantown. She was united in marriage to Lorenz Meyer on June 4, 1939 at the bride’s home near Larrabee, Iowa. To this union five children were born, Donna Fay, Diana Kay, Dorrance Lorenz, Delvin Dean and Dale Ray.

They made their home in Germantown, Iowa for twenty seven years. Lucile worked several places as well as Miller’s General Store in Germantown until she and her husband bought their business, the L&L Tavern, in Calumet, Iowa in 1966. They moved to Calumet in 1969. She lost her husband in 1983 and in 1996 she moved to an apartment in Sutherland until moving to her daughter’s home in Storm Lake.

During her lifetime she was a busy lady raising the five children. She was their tailor, barber/beautician, gardener, and as her family always called her “Doctor Meyer” as she had lots of home remedies. She loved to sew and helped one granddaughter make her wedding dress. Always willing to help. She loved to quilt and made quilts for her family members. Spending time with family, playing cards, Rummikub and just visiting and going gambling were things she enjoyed.

She is survived by her daughters Donna Butcher of Calumet, Iowa; Diana (Dennis) Kessler of Storm Lake, Iowa; sons Dorrance Meyer of Oklahoma and Dale Meyer of Markesan, Wisconsin; 15 grandchildren, 50 great grandchildren, 43 great-great grandchildren and 1 great-great-great grandchild; nieces and nephews and a special friend, Julie Florine of Sutherland, Iowa.

Lucile was preceded in death by her husband Lorenz Meyer in 1983, son Delvin Meyer in 2009, son-in-law Harold Butcher in 2010; daughter-in-law Barbara Meyer in 2017; her parents John and Elizabeth Jurgensen; brother Delbert (Luella) Jurgensen; sisters Berniece (Fred) Will; Eleanor (Albert) Jepp; Elsie Jurgensen; grandchildren Richard Van Kalsbeek and Terri Skelly; great grandchildren Patrick Van Kalsbeek and Amanda Weaver.

Lucile was blessed to be a part of a six generation which does not happen very often. She was an awesome and loving lady and will truly be missed by her family and friends.
