Claudia Price, age 89, of Orange City died Saturday, July 13, 2002, at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City.
A memorial service was held on Tuesday, July 16 at 11:00 a.m. at the American Reformed Church in Orange City. The Rev. Harlan Van Oort officiated. Burial was at Prairie View Cemetery in Paullina under the direction of the Oolman Funeral Home, Orange City.
Claudia Celeste was born May 7, 1913, at Sutherland, the daughter of Ernst J. and Dora (Hansen) Claussen: As a young child, her family moved to Paullina, where she was confirmed in the Lutheran church. Later, they moved to Sioux City, where she graduated from East High School and attended Morningside College.
On June 15, 1940, she married William Kenneth Price in Sioux City. They lived in Climbing Hill and in Onawa. In 1957, they moved to Orange City, where Ken became the Sioux County Superintendent of Schools. Claudia then became his administrative assistant. They retired in 1976.
In retirement, they served six summers on the staff of the YMCA of the Rockies at Estes Park, Colo. They also traveled extensively throughout the world. Mr. Price died Feb. 6, 1994, in Hartley. For the past three years, Claudia had been a resident of Bickford cottage in Sioux City. She was a member of American Reformed Church, where she helped organize the Lunch Bunch.
Mrs. Price was a member of the American Reformed Church where she helped organize the Lunch Bunch. She also belonged to Kappa Zeta Chi Sorority, Ramblers, Women’s' Club and the League of Women Voters.
Claudia was active in the Democratic Party, participated in Orange City Tulip Festival activities, and was involved in Peace Links. She was concerned about the environment and was an avid bridge player. Her household always had many pets.
Survivors include her two daughters and their husbands, Penny and Dr. Paul Fee and Becky and Larry Williams, all of Sioux City: two sons, Allen Price and his wife, Cherri, of Sioux Falls, S.D.; and David Price of Fruita. Colo.: nine step-grandchildren; and 11 great step-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her sister, Eleanor "Nell" Claussen.
Memorials will be directed to The Nature Conservancy and Peace Links.
