Betty Harmelink Dorsman was born in Rock Valley, Iowa on November 10, 1928 to Bert and Rena (Van Dyke) Harmelink. She attended school in Rock Valley and Sheldon in her early years. When World War II came the family moved to Michigan and she moved several times due to war time work and each time she was enrolled in a new school. She finished her High School in Wayne, Michigan.

After the war years Betty returned to Sheldon, Iowa where she met and married Adrian Dorsman. To this union were born Carol (Jack) Petty of Big Fork, Montana; Ryan (Jeanine) Dorsman of Sheldon, Iowa and Gregory (Melinda) Dorsman of Upland, California.

Betty was a devoted Christian and was involved in teaching Sunday school classes especially for the young children participating in Bible classes which she continued all her life. For a number of years she served as secretary at Bellflower, California Chamber of Commerce and later secretary of Bethel Reformed Church in Bellflower which she greatly enjoyed because it allowed her to associate with many Christians on varied levels.

Over the years Betty had many hobbies including fabricating porcelain dolls, quilting, collecting antiques. She also was an avid bowler. But her favorite was traveling in their motor home visiting many parts of this great nation. She loved to sew and many times she was called on by friends and family members to perform repair jobs and to create wearable clothing. Over the years she accumulated a great supply of various types of material. Throughout their married life Betty and her husband had the privilege to travel to the Holy Land, Europe, Hawaii, Alaska, Australia, New Zealand, Mexico, Panama, Canada, Scandinavian countries and the U.S. plus other wonderful destinations. They also enjoyed helping with mission work in many different places that needed help with the building trades.

In the past number of years Betty and Adrian spent their winters in Mesa, Arizona visiting with many snow birds. In September of 2017 Betty and Adrian moved to the Sheldon Christian Retirement Home.

Adrian preceded her in death on November 7, 2020 in Sheldon. After Adrian's passing Betty moved to California to make her home. She passed away in California on Thursday February 3, 2022 reaching the age of 93 years two months and twenty-three days.

Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Carol, Ryan and Gregory, 10 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren one sister Irene Sample of Long Beach, California and other relatives and friends.
