Elmer Hibbing
1917 - 1945

Elmer Hibbing, the son of Henry and Anna Hibbing, was born on a farm near Paullina on May 25, 1917. On the eighth day of July of the same year he was received into membership of the Christian church by the sacrament of Holy Baptism administered by Pastor A. H. Semmann. Having been instructed in the doctrines of the church he became a communicant member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church at Paullina by the rite of confirmation on May 22, 1932, Pastor J. Hartmeister, administering the rite.

On April 14, 1940 he entered into the holy estate of matrimony with Gertrude Bohm of Winside, Nebraska, Pastor H. M. Hilpert officiating. This union was blessed with two children, one son and one daughter. His final illness overtook him at his farm home five miles southwest of Paullina on Monday, July 10. He departed this life at the Le Mars hospital last Monday, July 23, at about 12.30 p. m. at the age of 23 years, 1 month and 28 days.

He leaves to mourn his parting his wife and two children, Gary and Carol; his father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Hibbing; two brothers and two sisters, Mrs. Elsie Johannsen of Gaza, Iowa, Alvin with the armed forces, Wilbert and Mildred at home, and his grandmother, Mrs. Emma Hibbing of Paullina.

Two brothers preceded him in death.

Funeral services were held last Thursday, July 26, at 2:30 p. m. from Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church. Interment was made at the Paullina cemetery. Pastor Martin Peters officiated.
