Regina "Sarge" Penning, age 80, of Sheldon, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, March 30, 2002 at her residence in Sheldon, Iowa.

Services were held on Tuesday, April 2, 2002 at 10:30 a.m. at Saint Patrick's Catholic Church in Sheldon with Fr. John McGuirk officiating. Burial was in Saint Patricks Catholic Cemetery of Sheldon under the direction of the Vander Ploeg Funeral Home of Sheldon.

Regina "Sarge" Penning, the daughter of John and Helena (Robinet) Penning, was born June 28, 1921, on the family farm near Hospers, Iowa. She received her education in Hospers. She cleaned homes and offices and most recently she worked for Dr. Jones and Russell Ready Mix in Sheldon.

Regina was a member of Saint Patrick's Catholic church and of the Ladies' Guild. She was a very active member of Eagles in Sheldon. She enjoyed playing Bingo and needle work. Regina was always ready to help someone else whenever they needed help She will be missed for the many acts of kindness she extended.

Regina leaves to cherish her memory her four sisters: Mildred "Mikki" Van Kekerix of La Palma, California, Lucille Eich of Spirit Lake, Iowa; Eleanor "Norie" Henry of Brandon, South Dakota; Rose Koerselman of Sheldon, Iowa; a brother in law, Marvin Peterson of Tyler, Minnesota; several nieces, nephews and relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Arthur Penning; a sister, Monica Peterson; four brothers-in-law, a sister-in-law and two nephews.
