Services Held For Walter Strampe, 83

Funeral services for Walter J. Strampe were held Tuesday morning. Sept 23 at the Zion Lutheran Church of Paullina. Mr. Strampe passed away Saturday Sept 20 in a Sioux City hospital. Rev. Donald Johnson officiated at the services. Pallbearers were. Vernon Meyer. Vernon Strampe, Julius Bilveu. Norman Meyer. Bill Skinner and John Muller and Orville Hatfield. Mrs. Frieda Dance and Mrs. Edna Simm were in charge of flowers. The congregation sang two hymns accompanied by Norwald H. Behrens. Burial was in Prairie View Cemetery near Paullina with arrangements under the care of the Gaudian-Eldridge Funeral Home of Paullina.

Waller J. Strampe. the son of William and Elisa Gruenhagen Strampe was born Aug. 29, 1897 in O'Brien County, Iowa. He was baptized into the Lutheran faith on Sept. 26. 1897. and later confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church on April 19, 1911. Walter attended St. John's Lutheran school in Germantown and the Paullina High School.

On March 28, 1918 he was united in marriage to Emma Schultz in O'Brien County, Ia. Their entire married life was spent in Paullina where Walter was employed by the Paullina Lumber Yard and also assisted his wife in owning and operating the Strampe Variety Store in Paullina for 43 years. He retired in July of 1979 from the lumber yard.
Walter passed away on Saturday. Sept 20. 1980 in a Sioux City hospital after a short illness, reaching the age of 83 years and 21 days.

He leaves to mourn his passing his wife Emma and his children, daughter Marcella Young of Annapolis. Md .and son Harlan of Elkader. la.; 5 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren: three sisters. Mrs. Mandy Rosenberg of Chandler, Minn., Mrs. Alvina Derby of Sioux City and Mrs. Laura Brehmer of Hartley, and one brother, Clarence Strampe of Brandon, S.D.: many nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.

Walter was preceded in death by his parents and five brothers.
