LAST RITES HELD FOR ALVENA GIESER

Funeral services for Alvena Gieser were held at the Trinity United Church of Christ in Hartley on Thursday afternoon, April 23. Rev. Bernard Sayler officiated. The casket bearers were Ed Jacobs, Orville Rusch, Adolph Senn, Eldon Paulsen, Garland Steinbeck and Donald Denny. Burial was at the Pleasant View Cemetery, with the Baumgarten Funeral Home of Hartley in charge of the arrangements.

Alvena Elizabeth Gieser, the daughter of Henry and Eliese (Arend) Schmoll, was born October 28, 1893 in Harrison Township, Osceola County, Iowa. She was baptized January 15, 1894 in the Lutheran faith near May City and confirmed April 4, 1909 at Trinity United Church of Christ in Hartley.

She was united in marriage to Adolf Gieser at Hartley on February 24, 1915. They were lifetime residents of the Hartley area. She was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ and the Ladies Aid. For many years she was a member of the Busy Bee Club and has always enjoyed doing fine handwork. For the last several years she had been a resident at Millie's Rest Home at Sutherland.

She passed away at the Baum-Harmon Hospital in Primghar on April 21, 1981 at the age of 87. Preceding her in death were her parents, one brother, one sister and her husband in 1962.

Left to cherish her memory are one son and his wife, Ralph and Viola Gieser of Sutherland and two daughters and their husbands, Ardyce and George Klarstrom of Buffalo, Minn., and Maxine and Robert Steele of Sutherland; sixteen grandchildren, twenty-eight greatgrandchildren: one sister, Mrs. Bertha Anderson of Fairmont, Minn.; one sister-in-law, Mrs. Eloth Schmoll of Spencer; other relatives and friends.
