Following a few days illness, Mrs. Eva Ruth Stevens slipped away quietly and peacefully over the threshold to make her abode in the City of Light, "That Land on whos blissful shore there rests no shadow, falls no stain; where those who meet shall part no more and those long parted meet again."

Eva Ruth Salisbury Stevens, dauther of Lyman and Sarah Jane (Lacy) Salsisbury, was born January 1, 1893 in Daysville, Illinois, and died November 23, 1949 in Sanborn, Iowa, at the age of 76 years, 10 months and 22 days. She grew to womanhood at Daysville. She was one of a family of six children, two brothers and three sisters, of which one brother, Fred Salisbury, lives in Rockford, Illinois. One brother, George, and three sisters, of Harriet, Alma and Adelle, preceded her in death.

She was married to George Orvis Stevens at Lighthouse, Illinois on September 25, 1890. To this union on child, Donald E, was born and preceded his mother in death August 23, 1927.

Immediately after their marriage, they moved to Rockford, Illinois, where they lived for fifteen years. Here Mr. Stevens began his railroad career. Feeling his need for a change of occupation and the out of doors, the family decided to come west and homesteaded in Lyman County, South Dakota. His love for the railroad reclaimed him while his wife and son were on the claim, he became station agent at Murdo, South Dakota, which position he held for seven years. Followed two years in the Ozarks and in 1916 they moved to Sanborn, Iowa. After six years they moved to Canton, South Dakota and it was there that Mr. Stevens passed away February 17, 1929.

After his death, Mrs. Stevens changed her residence to Sanborn, Iowa, and for the past several years has found companionship in the home of her daughter in law, Mrs. Ethelyn Stevens.

She is survived by one brother, Fred Salisbury and a niece, Mrs. Edith Taylor at Rockford, Illinois; a niece Mrs Florenc Manschreck, and a foster nephew, Elmer Salisbury at Morenci, Michigan, and daughter-in-law, Mrs. Ethelyn Stevens at Sanborn.

While at Murdo, Mrs. Stevens and her husband became charter members of the newly organized Congregational church. Here also in 1911 she became a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, later affiliating with the Gates City Chapter, Canton, South Dakota, where she permanently retained her membership. On moving to Canton, Mr. and Mrs. Stevens united with the Methodist church but upon changing her residence to Sanborn, she placed her membership in the Presbyterian church, of which she was an active member, giving her last consideration to the welfare of the church. Mrs. Stevens had been an Elder of the Presbyterian church and was a member of the Presbyterian Women's Association. She had served on the Sanborn Library Board, and was vice-president at the time of her retirement in 1958, and was a past president of the Milwaukee Railroad Women's Club; also at one time she was a member of the Twentieth Century Club.

Mrs. Stevens' geniality and sympathetic understanding made her an outstanding personality in the various communities in which she lived, and to all with whom she came in contact. Her philosophy of life was "Bear ye one another's burdens," and "Love they neighbor as thyself."

Funeral services were conducted Saturday afternoon at 1:30 at the home and at 2 o'clcock at the Presbyterian church with Rev. G.F. Butler in charge.

The many beautiful flor offerings gave testimony of the esteem in which she was held.
