Services held for Clarence A. Hibbing
Funeral services for Clarence A. Hibbing, age 73 years, 7 months and 3 days, were- held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, December 10, 2001, at the Zion Lutheran Church in Paullina, Iowa, with Rev. Karl Eckhoff officiating. The flag presentation was by Russell West Post of the American Legion of Paullina. Interment was at Prairie View Cemetery at Paullina, Iowa, under the direction of the Gaudian-Eldridge Funeral Home.
OBITUARY
Clarence (Claus) A. Hibbing, the son of Carl H. and Margaret Kniese Hibbing, was born May 3, 1928. He was baptized at Zion Lutheran Church on June 3, 1928. He attended Dale Township country school and Zion Lutheran School. He was confirmed at Zion in May of 1943. Claus graduated from Paullina High School with the Class of 1947.
He was inducted into the U.S. Army on January 5, 1951. In May of 1951 he married Verla Strampe. After their marriage the couple lived in Arlington, VA for the remainder of his tour of duty. Following his discharge they returned home and began farming north of Paullina. Along with farming, Claus sold Pioneer Seed for 28 years. Claus and Verla moved into town in 1981 and retired from farming in 1988.
Claus enjoyed bowling and fishing with friends and family. They enjoyed traveling and wintered in Arizona for many years.
He is survived by his wife, Verla; his sons: Mark and wife Jonie, and David and wife Janelle; six grandchildren: Todd, Kelly, Adam, Brice, Grant and Brooke; his brother, Earl and wife Nancy, all of Paullina; and a host of other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents; infant brother, Robert; and sister, Gladys Thoms
