William Warnecke

William Warnecke, son of Johann and Sophia Meyer Warnecke, was born in Wrested, Germany on Jan. 18, 1883.

At the age of 5 he and his widowed mother came to America to live with relatives at Germantown.

In 1890 his mother married Fred Pauling. In 1896 Mr. Warnecke was confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church at Germantown. He farmed in this area until he moved to Lake Park, Iowa in 1923. He continued farming there until 1943 when he moved to Sterling, Colorado where his brother Fred Pauling lived, and he was an active farmer and rancher in that, community for the last 30 years. He passed away on Tuesday, February 20, 1973 in the Sterling, Colorado Hospital at the age of 90.

Services in his memory were held at First English Lutheran Church, Sterling, Colorado on Thursday afternoon, February 22, 1973 with the Rev. Arnold Obermeier as the officiating clergyman.

Left to cherish, his memory are one sister, Mrs. Elmer (Laura) Holtcamp of Kansas City, Missouri; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Fred Pauling of Sterling, Colorado; one nephew, Martin Pauling of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; 3 nieces, Mrs. Harold (Viola) Puhrmann of Paullina, Iowa, Mrs. Gene (Leona) Smith of Littleton, Colorado, Mrs. Dale (Ruth) Theobald, of Lincoln, Nebraska; 7 other nieces and nephews; 39 grand nieces and nephews; and 9 great grand nieces and nephews; other relatives and a host of friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and 4 brothers.

Memorial services were held on Saturday, February 24, 1973 at 2 p.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church, Paullina [Germantown], Iowa. The Rev. Armin Prowatzke officiated, with burial the church cemetery.

Serving as pallbearers were Emil Pauling, Walter Pauling, Leonard Pauling, Harold Richter, James Meyer, Lorenz Kruse.
