Funeral services for Tena J. Engelke were- held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 14, 1998, at the Zion Lutheran Church in Paullina, Iowa, with Rev. Steven Hayden officiating.

"Abide With Me" and "Be Still My Soul" were sung by the congregation. The organist was Mrs. Alice Fintel. Howard and Carol Crouse were in charge of flowers. The casket bearers were Alan Dau, Bruce Engelke, Rodney Roth, Brian Engelke, Scott Engelke and Larry Schaa.

Interment was at Prairie View Cemetery at Paullina, Iowa, under the direction of the Gaudian-Eldridge Funeral Home.

OBITUARY

Tena Johanna Sarah Mews Engelke, the daughter of John and Anna Dornbusch Mews, was born October 18, 1900, in Dale Township, near Paullina, Iowa. She attended Paullina schools, graduating from Paullina High School on May 19, 1919. Tena worked at the Post Office in Paullina, and for 18 years was employed at Lage's Drug Store. After it closed, she worked at Livingston's Dry Goods Store in Paullina.

On June 28, 1959, she was united in marriage to W.D. Engelke at the Good Shepard Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. After their marriage, the couple made their home in Paullina. Her husband preceded her in death on December 20, 1973, in Primghar, Iowa. Tena continued to make her home in Paullina until entering the Wide View Rest Home. She passed away at Wide View on Sunday, January 11, 1998, reaching the age of 97 years, 2 months and 23 days.

She was baptized on January 21, 1901, by Pastor Horn, later confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church on June 16, 1916, by Pastor Semmann. She was a life-long member of Zion Lutheran Church, and taught Sunday School for over 25 years and was active in Dorcas of the church from its beginning. She was a charter member of Paullina Federated Women's Club, which is now Expression Group Women's Club.

Tena is survived by one stepdaughter, Mrs. (Roy) Elva Dau of Hartley, Iowa; two step-sons and their wives: John and Marge Engelke of Sutherland, Iowa, and Bob and Rita Engelke of Paullina; eight grandchildren; 11 greatgrandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren; also a host of other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband and parents.
