Services Held for Emma Gieser

Funeral services for Mrs. Emma Gieser were held Friday, July 17, 1987 at the Highland Lutheran Church in Brandt, South Dakota, with Rev. Neale Thompson officiating. Burial was in the Highland Cemetery at Brandt.

Mrs. Emma Gieser, age 84, a resident of the Good Samaritan Center in Clear Lake and a former Brandt community resident, passed away July 13, 1987 at the Prairie Lakes West Hospital in Watertown.

She was born December 18, 1892, in Hartley, Iowa, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Rost. She grew to womanhood in the Hartley area. She as united in marriage to Peter Gieser on March 26, 1913 at Hartley, Iowa. After their marriage, they moved to South Dakota, settling in the Brandt community in January of 1920. they farmed until the moved to Brandt in 1944.

Her husband passed away December 24, 1973. She entered the Good Samaritan Center in Clear Lake in February of 1974.

She was a member of the Highland Lutheran Church in Brandt, and in her younger years she was active in the Ladies Aid of the church. She also was a lifetime member of the Brandt American Legion Auxiliary.

She is survived by one son, Earl of Brandt; one daughter, Vera (Mrs. Ralph Westaby) of Sioux Falls; nine grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; nine step-great grandchildren; 14 great great grandchildren and four step great great grandchildren. Also surviving are two brothers, Rudolph Rost of Brookings, and Harvey Rost of Torrington, Wyoming; and four sisters: Alta Rost of Hendricks, Minnesota; Rosa Schultz of Watertown, South Dakota, Hilda Nicola of Watertown and Mrs. Merle (Evelyn) Macarthur of Sioux Falls.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, one grandchild, one great grandchild, four brothers, and three sisters.
