Christian Thompson, age 86 years, died at his home near Paullina, Sunday, November 13, following an illness of many months duration. Funeral services were held Wednesday, November 16 at the Friends Meeting house, and interment was made in the Friends cemetery.

Christian Thompson was born at Strand, near the city of Stavanger, Norway, on February 20th, 1846. In 1868, he immigrated to American in the sailing vessel, "Meram." After an eventful voyage of five weeks and three days, the ship landed in Quebec, Canada. Here the passengers were held in quarantine for 8 days on a little island. The latter part of June they were loaded on freight cars on which they traveled to Chicago. From Chicago in passenger coaches he went to Le Grande, Iowa, to the home of his brother, Bertil Thompson.

On April 19, 1874, he was married to Serena Benson. In 1885 they moved to Paullina on the farm where he resided continuously to his death. There remains to mourn his departure six sons, Melvin, of Parker, South Dakota; John, Abel, Carney, Sidwell and Isaac of Paullina; four daughters, Bertha Tjossem, Bertina Strand, Alma Strand, and Mavis Jacobs of this community, twenty-five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Mr. Thompson was a man of sterling character and was especially devoted to his home and family. He was a member of the Friends Society. His friends are numbered by his acquaintances and they were many.
