George Jochums was born August 7, 1874 at Pattensburg, Marshal Co., Illinois. [sic] He lived at Minonk until he was 19 years of age when he moved with the family to Iowa. The mother died when he was five years old.

He was married February 20, 1900 to Ida Hokuf of Wilber, Nebraska, and to this union five children were born: Alice Iva, Clarice Lena, Bertrand George, Marvel Mary, and George Theodore. The union has been one of highest happiness, and the love of a kind father will be a memory sweet to cherish.

He was taken sick May 21 and was operated upon the following day, seemingly with success, but he passed away suddenly May 30, at one o'clock. Age 46 years, 8 months and 23 days.

He leaves to mourn his death, his loving wife and five children, a father, B. Jochums of Minonk, Illinois; two brothers, John and Joe, of Sanborn; two sisters, Lena Jochums of this place, and Mrs. Mary Meierhofer of Minonk, Illinois. Besides these near relatives, he leaves a host of friends who have but the kindest words of appreciation for his noble life., and the deepest feelings of sympathy for the bereaved ones.

The funeral was held Wednesday afternoon from the home, and the remains were laid at rest in Pleasant View Cemetery.
