Fred Herman Mueller was born September 13, 1848, in Osaka County, Wisconsin where he received his training and lived a happy youth. In 1864 he came with his parents to La Porte City in Black Hawk County, Iowa. There he was converted and joined the Evangelical church to which he stood faithful till the end.

January 1, 1873, he married Miss Clara Newmeister. From this Union came seven children, four sons and three daughters. One son and one daughter departed into eternity before their father.

Mr. Mueller came in 1876 to Plymouth county and lived there fourteen years. Ten years ago he moved to Hartley where he has since lived.

For three or four years past, he has been suffering with what the physicians concluded to be appendicitis, but he had not consented to an operation until a short time ago, and went to Sioux City for that purpose. The physicians discovered that the disease had run into a cancer, and he died from the effects of the operation August 9 at 12:0 m., being 41 years, 10 months and 26 days old.

On the day of his departure as he passed the church he said to Rev. Welnands, "Will I ever enter this church again?" and he answered himself with the words: "Yes, they will carry me in."

On his death bed, his wife asked him, "Where will you go when you die?" His answer was, "Why, where else than to Jesus whom I served from my youth up?"

His funeral took place from the German Evangelical church, Saturday at 11:00 a.m., Rev. J.W. Weinands conducting the service in German and Rev. D.A. McBurney addressed the congregation in English. The body was laid to rest in the Hartley cemetery.

He leaves his wide, five children, a mother 80 years old, a blind mother-in-law of the same age, two brothers, and many other relatives, upon whom we pray the riches blessings of God to comfort them.
