Freeman August Miller was born April 15, 1907, in Buena Vista County, the son of August and Minnie Miller. At the age of four, he came to O'Brien County with his parents and attended country school to the age of eleven. Freeman was thirteen when his dad passed away, and he started to farm with his mother.

He was united in marriage to Evelyn Rose Raveling at Spencer. They became the parents of August, Bonnie, Jim, Robert and Ronald (Pat). Freeman and Evelyn spent their years together farming in the communities of Sutherland and Calumet. In 1973 he retired to Sutherland, spending lots of time going fishing at Lake Okoboji. Freeman's hobbies were flowers, gardening, fishing, and camping.

He and Evelyn enjoyed their 60th wedding anniversary January 6, 1994, with their family.

Preceding him in death were his parents; two sons, August and Jim; one great-grandson, and one brother, Herb.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Evelyn; one daughter, Bonnie and Dick Bronson of Duluth, Minnesota; two sons, Robert and Shirley Miller of Sutherland, and Ronald (Pat) and Judy Miller of Spencer; fifteen grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren; one sister, Anita Kamradt of Hartley; as well as many other relatives and friends.
