Electa J. Pond was born June 15, 1838, at Townville, Crawford County, Pennsylvania, and died at her home in Dale township, Wednesday, July 31, 1907, aged 69 years.

She came to Clay County, Iowa November 17, 1884, and to her her late home in O'Brien county in April, 1996, locating on a quarter section of the contested government land, where she has since resided, being successful in her suit against the railroad for the possession of the land.

Funeral services were held at her home Friday afternoon, August 2d, Rev. W.O. Tompkins officiating, and interment was made in Pleasant Hill cemetery.

Miss Pond had been ill for some time with dropsy, and her death was not unexpected. She is survived by two brothers and two sisters: Dr. Pond, of Sioux Rapids; Mrs. R.P. Jones, of Primghar; and a brother in Pennsylvania and a sister in Texas.
