Services held for Lena C. Bruns [Gravestone reflects middle initial "E"]

Funeral services for Lena C. Bruns were held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, August 25, 1989, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Germantown, Iowa, with Rev. Charles Kramer officiating. The, pallbearers were Randall Bruns, Ricky Bruns, Leslie Bruns, Darrell Bruns, Deloy Bruns, Curtis Koehlmoos and Mervyn Hoermann. The final resting place is Prairie View Cemetery, Paullina, Iowa, under the direction of the Gaudian-Eldridge Funeral Home.

OBITUARY

Lena C. Bruns, the daughter of Charley and Rachel Elhers Stroman, was born January 1, 1903, near Archer, in O'Brien County, Iowa. She attended schools in O'Brien County. On April 5, 1922, she was united in marriage to Charles Bruns in Primghar, Iowa. After their marriage the couple farmed in Baker Township in O'Brien County for many years. Charles preceded her in death on May 18, 1981, in Sioux City, Iowa. Lena continued to make her home on the family farm until entering the Wide View Rest Home in Paullina. She passed away on Tuesday, August 22, 1989, at the Baum-Harmon Hospital in Primghar, reaching the age of 86 years, 7 months and 21 days.

She was baptized on November 1, 1903, and later confirmed on February 19, 1978, and was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Germantown.

Lena leaves to cherish her memory two daughters and sons-in-laws, Clara and Burnell Koehlmoos of Paullina and Betty and Darrell Brotherton of Hurley, South Dakota; four sons and three daughters-in-law: Ralph and Betty Bruns of Aurelia, Charles and Evelyn Bruns of Primghar, Richard Bruns of Paullina and Dennis and Pam Bruns of Hull; one daughter-in-law, Ruth Ann Bruns of Peterson; also 25 grandchildren; 31 great grandchildren; also two sisters, Mrs. Frank (Luella) Ducommun and Mrs. Bertha Kinzel, both of Cherokee; also nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband; one son, Leo; son-in-law, Vernell Hoermann; one granddaughter, Eleanora (Eli) Bruns; one great granddaughter, Megan Rabel; parents; one brother, Harold; and one sister, Edith Brandt.
