Margaret (Janssen) Bakker, the daughter of Koert and Anna (Blecker) Janssen, was born in Grundy County, Iowa on June 25, 1913. At an early age, she moved with her family to Bemis, South Dakota, where she lived her youth and received her education.

She was united in marriage to John Bakker on January 11, 1944 at Worthington, Minnesota. Following the marriage, they farmed near Sanborn until retiring and moving to Sheldon in 1981.

John died on October 23, 1989

Margaret became a resident of Prairie View Home in July 1997. Margaret was a member of the First Christian Reformed Church of Sheldon. Special interests of Margaret included interior decorating, flowers, gardening, wood refinishing, and spending time with her family and friends.

She died at the Osceola Community Hospital at Sibley, Iowa, on December 8, 2000, at the age of 87 years, four months, and 13 days.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Bruce Hall of Ogallala, Nebraska; three grandchildren, Chris, John, and Sarah; one sister, Hilda Vogel of Sanborn, other relatives and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, three brothers; John, Bill, and Andrew; and three sisters: Jessie TeKrony, Jennie Vogel and Cora DeVries.

Funeral services ere held December 14 at the Christian Reformed Church with Rev. John A. Vermeer officiating. Burial was in Roseland Cemetery, Sanborn, with the Sanborn Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
