Fred Korthals Dies of Nephritis

Fred Korthals, proprietor of the Gamble Store, died at 7:30 pm on August 22, 1956, at the Memorial Hospital, Sheldon, Iowa, at the age of 33 years, 10 months and 12 days. The cause of his death was termed as nephritis. He was a resident of Sanborn, Iowa.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, August 25, 1956 at the O'Brien County Co-op Funeral Home, Sanborn, Iowa, and 1:30 p.m at the First Reformed Church of Sanborn, Iowa, with Rev. Wm. Haak officiating. Burial for final resting place was at the Roseland Cemetery, Sanborn, Iowa.

He was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Korthals (deceased) formerly of Matlock, Iowa. Fred Korthals was born on October 3, 1922, at Matlock, Iowa, and lived at this residence until 1945 at which time he entered the US Army. He had his elementary schooling at Matlock, Iowa, and following this he farmed with his mother until the time he entered the service.

Fred was discharged from the US Army in January of 1947. Following this, he was employed by the O'Brien County Co-op Creamer of Sanborn, Iowa for about 7 months and after leaving this employment, he began operating the Gamble Store of Sanborn.

Fred was united in marriage with Louise Prins, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Prins, Sanborn, Iowa, on October 8, 1947, and have made their home in Sanborn from this date. To this union of marriage were born two sons, David, age 4, and Larry, age 2.

Fred Korthals leaves to mourn his wife, Louise, and two sons, David and Larry, four sisters, Mrs. Henry Harms, Hartley, Iowa, Mrs. Tony Arends, Sheldon, Iowa, Mrs. Gerrit Roetman, Sanborn, Iowa, and Mrs. Erwin Heimensen, Worthington, Minnesota, and one brother, Mr. Herman Korthals of Los Angeles, California, and his father and mother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. John Prins, Sr. of Sanborn.

Preceding him in death was one brother, Leonard, and also his father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Korthals.

Mr. Fred Korthals leaves to mourn many relatives and a host of friends.
