George Westphal Dies Suddenly; Final Rites Conducted Saturday

George Westphal passed away very suddenly at Peterson on Wednesday, Jan. 24 at the age of 51. He had been a community resident all his life. He and his family had moved to Peterson last spring. Previous to that time he had been farming southeast of Germantown. Since moving to Peterson, he was engaged in the feed grinding business.

On Wednesday morning, Jan 24, he had driven to Spencer on business and was back home visiting with a friend when he was stricken with a heart attack.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Jan. 27 at Gaudian Funeral Home at 1:30 p.m. and from St. John Lutheran Church at 2 p.m. The Rev. Paul Sohn was the officiating clergyman. Interment was at Prairie View Cemetery, Paullina.

Mrs. Martin Fintel, soloist, sang "Be Still My Soul " accompanied by Mr. Duane Harmening.

Pallbearers were Roy Hansen, Burnell Puhrmann, Myrtle Larson, Burton Wetherell, Robert Rohrbaugh and Floyd Rohrbaugh.

Survivors include his widow, Elsie, four children, Arlene (Mrs. Richard Roos) of California, Virgil of Wisc., Marlys (Mrs. Rodney y DeWoolf) of Aurelia, and Carolyn at home; six grandchildren and brothers and sisters, Mary (Mrs. Adolph Hoermann) of Paullina, Ernest of Primghar, Rose (Mrs. Oscar Vogt) of Calumet, Lena (Mrs. Chris Luhrs) of Primghar, Ceila (Mrs. Louis Larson) of Hartley, Roy of Arizona, and Edna (Mrs. Harry Wolf) of Primghar.

GEORGE E. WESTPHAL

1910-1962

George E. Westphal, son of August Westphal and Wilhemina Horstmann Westphal, was born January 26, 1910 on a farm near Primghar. He attended rural school and spent his entire life farming in O'Brien County. On June 22, 1935, he was married to Elsie Appeldorn. To this union four children were born. On January 24 he suddenly passed away at Peterson, where the family had moved about a year ago. He was 51 years 11 months and 28 days of age.

He is survived by his wife, Elsie, four children, Arlene (Mrs. Richard Roos) of California, Virgil of Madison, Wis., Marlys (Mrs. Rodney DeWoolf) of Aurelia, and Carolyn still at home; six grandchildren and his brothers and sisters, Mary (Mrs. Adolph Hoermann) of Paullina, Ernest of Primghar, Rose (Mrs. Oscar Vogt) of Calumet, Lena (Mrs. Chris Luhrs) of Primghar, Ceila (Mrs. Louis Larson) of Hartley, Roy of Phoenix, Ariz. and Edna (Mrs. Harr y Wolf) of Primghar.
