William Albert Mohni

Funeral services in memory of William Albert Mohni of Hartley were conducted Tuesday, January 7, 1997, at Trinity United Church of Christ in Hartley. Rev. Milo Sheldon officiated at the 2 p.m. services. Casket bearers were Dennis Mohni, Jim Mohni, Dan Mohni, Merold Mohni, Lynwood Mohni and Cliff Roggenburg. Honorary casket bearers were Keith Marra, George Mills, Eldon Paulsen, Orville Rusch, Ed Jacobs, Wayne Rossman, Adolf Senn, Edwin Zinn and Mark Butt. Interment was in Pleasant View Cemetery in Hartley. Warner-Baumgarten Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

William Albert Mohni, the son of Albert and Emma Hugh Mohni, was born November 14,1917 in rural Clay County, Iowa. His childhood years were spent near Everly, where he received his education in country schools.

William served his country during World War II with the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1945. During his service he received several decorations including: one Service Stripe, three Overseas Service Bars, the American Campaign Medal, the European-African-Middle Eastern Theatre Ribbon, W/3 Bronze Battle Stars, the Good Conduct Medal and the World War II Victory Medal, while serving in the campaigns at Rome-Arno, North Appennines and Po Valley.

William married Ella Just on November 21, 1947 in Fulda, Minnesota. Following their marriage, they fanned near Everly. In 1967, they moved into Hartley, where he worked for O'Brien County Road maintenance until 1979.

He was a lifelong member of Trinity United Church of Christ in Hartley and had served on the Consistory. Bill was a loving husband and devoted father who loved and enjoyed his grandchildren very much. His love of the soil and farming showed in his care of his garden.

Mr. Mohni passed away at the Spencer Municipal Hospital on Sunday, January 5,1997 at the age of 79. He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers: Ernest, Ed, John, Oscar and Herman; and three sisters: Tillie, Rose and Minnie.

He is survived by his wife, Ella of Hartley; one son and his wife, Gene and Mary Mohni of Hartley; one daughter and her husband, Jolene and Terry Wildeman of Hartley; five grandchildren: Angela, Christy and Michael Mohni, and Melissa and Matthew Wildeman; two sisters: Marie - Mrs. Harry Wiese of Hartley and Louise - Mrs. Wilbur Steinbeck of Campbellsport, Wisconsin; other relatives and many friends.
