Mary Ann Collins Hoffman

Mary Ann Collins, born to Mr. and Mrs. James Collins near Webster City, Iowa, October 17, 1861, passed away at the Tanner Home in Primghar, April 9, 1947. She had been confined to her home in Hartley for several months before going to the home in Primghar several weeks ago.

At the age of 25 years, Mrs. Hoffman was united in Marriage to Ed Riley. To this union a son, Oscar, was born. It was but a short time later that Mr. Riley passed away.

On February 19, 1891, she and George Hoffman were married. To this union on daughter, Bertha Violete was born. By a former marriage, Mr Hoffman had three daughters: Mae, Effie, and Minnie.

Mr. and Mrs. Hoffman lived on a farm near Blairsburg, Iowa, until January, 1914, when they retired and moved to Webster City. Here they resided until 1920 when they moved to Hartley.

Mrs. Hoffman was a member of the United Brethren Church at Webster City, and retained her membership there until her death. While in Hartley, she attended the Zion Evangelical Church until its closing several years ago. Since that time, she has been mistered to by the Methodist Church in Hartley, although she continued to support the United Brethren Church with the greater part of her support. Besides her loyalty to the work of the Church, giving generously to its support and by attendance, she was a member of the Ladies Aid and the W.C.T.U.

She leaves to mourn her death her son Oscar L. Riley of Webster City; her daughter, Bertha Violet (Mrs. Louis Linder) of Hartley; a step daughter, Effie (Mrs. Robert Moore), Minnie (Mrs. Christ Linder) and Mae (Mrs. F. Falway).

Funeral services were Friday afternoon in the Methodist Church with the Rev. S.A. Kruschwitz officiating. A short service preceded in the Foley Funeral Home. Interment was at the Hartley Cemetery.
