SHELDON, Iowa -- Gertrude Dykstra, 75, of Sheldon passed away Sunday, Sept. 12, 2004, at her residence in Sheldon.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at First Reformed Church in Sheldon, with the Rev. David Brower officiating. Burial will be in East Lawn Cemetery at Sheldon prior to the services. Vander Ploeg Funeral Home in Sheldon is in charge of arrangements.

Gertrude Dykstra, the daughter of Jacob and Gertie (Jongetjes) Nels, was born Aug. 2, 1929, near Sheldon. She attended rural schools and graduated from Sheldon High School.

On Jan. 29, 1948, she was united in marriage to Clarence M. Dykstra in Sheldon. They farmed south of Sheldon for many years until moving into Sheldon in 1990.

Gertrude was a lifetime member of First Reformed Church in Sheldon. She enjoyed participating in her Bible study group, craft club, teaching catechism with her husband, gardening, sewing and spending time with her family and many friends.

Survivors include her husband, Clarence; a son, Robert Dykstra, of Minneapolis, Minn.; three daughters, Glenda and her husband, Arnie Hoogers, of Hospers, Iowa, Carolyn and her husband, Jerry Hoogers, of Maple Grove, Minn. and Julie and her husband, Chuck Rude, of Loves Park, Ill.; seven grandchildren, David and Shelley Hoogers, Laura and John Freemore, Jonathan Hoogers, Jennifer Jensen, Sara Hoogers, James and Kerri Hoogers and Emily Dykstra; two great-grandchildren, Grace and Rose Hoogers; two brothers and their wives, John and Gertrude Nels of Cedar Rapids, Iowa and Jack and Evelyn Nels of Worthington, Minn.; two sisters and their husbands, Jeanette and Jake Van Hal of Worthington and Theresa and Gary Meendering of Denver, Colo.; five sisters-in-law, Nellie Nels, Evelyn Nels, Florence Dykstra, Edna Dykstra and Margaret Dykstra; and other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and three brothers, Henry, William and Gary Nels.
