W.B. Cantrall Dies at Hartley Firday
Wiatt B. Cantrall, long time resident of Sanborn, passed away Friday night, June 11 at the Reid Nursing Home in Hartley after a lingering illness of a heart ailment.
Wiatt Cantrall, son of Mr. and Mrs. David P. Cantrall, was born June 18, 1864, at Milledgeville, Illinois. His family moved to Lisbon, Iowa when he was a young boy. There he met Miss Maggie Snyder, to whom he was married on February 4, 1886.
A year later they came to O'Brien County and settled on the farm three miles north and one and a half miles east of here, where the Henry Grooters family now lives. The place was bare unfenced prairie then. Mr. Cantrall and his wife improved the farm, planting trees, constructing buildings and all the other work that goes into making a home in new country.
In 1901 they moved into Sanborn and Mr. Cantrall operated a butcher shop where the Princess Theatre is now located, later erecting the building where the Kuiper Bros. Food Center is now located, for his business.

He was a member of Onyx Lodge A.F. and A.M. and of Coral Chapter O.E.S. for over fifty years. He was presented his 50 year certificate in both organizations in 1946.

Mr. Cantrall has been in failing health for several years, but was able to get down town until last fall when his condition became so critical he was later taken to the nursing home in Hartley for care. After his wife's death, he made his home with his niece, Mrs. Radloff.
