John C. Miller, the son of Charles and Wilhemina Schuknecht Miller, was born on February 27, 1895 in Marcus Township of Cherokee County, Iowa. He was baptized in the Christian faith on March 24, 1895 by the Rev. Oscar Horn of St. John Lutheran Church of Germantown. He received his education in the rural schools and spent his early youth in this same area. He was confirmed at St. John Lutheran Church on April 12, 1908 by the Rev. Oscar Horn at Germantown.
On January 24, 1971, he was united in marriage to Mary Ebert. This union was blessed with the gift of eight children. John and Mary farmed in the Cherokee County are for many years. Besides the many hours he spent on his farm, he also served in the ASCS office in Cherokee County from 1935 until 1955. In 1968 he retired from his farm home and moved to Paullina.
During the past year, John had been in failing health. He entered the Baum Harmon Memorial Hospital where he passed way to his eternal rest on Wednesday, April 12 at the age of 76 years, 1 month and 22 days.
He leaves to mourn his passing his beloved wife, Mary; his sons, Vernelle of Sioux City; Clifford, of Cleghorn; Leland and Eldon of Paullina; his daughters, Mildred, Mrs. Roger Van Dyke, of Sioux City; Verlie, Mrs William Yockey of Sioux City; Veniece, Mrs. Clark Skaggs of Cleghorn, and Vera, Mrs. Henry Stoltze of Sioux City.
He is also survived by 28 grandchildren and three great grandchildren. His three brothers, William, Ed. and Charles of Paullina also mourn his passing.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, and one granddaughter.
