Death of a Pioneer
Old Hartley Resident Dies in Chicago

Margaret Hughes, born October 13, 1835, in North Wales and came to this country when nine years of age, going to Pennsylvania for a short time, and then to Cambria, Wisconsin, where she was married to Edward D. Williams in 1858. To this union, ten children were born, of which are living Mart Trumble, Antelope, Montana; Margaret Pinckard, Chicago, Illinois; Joshua Williams, Hartley, Iowa; Hugh Williams, Richmond, California; John Williams, Polson, Montana.

In 1880 they moved to Hartley, Iowa, practically making this their home town. She joined the Welsh M.E. church when quite young, and has since been an earnest christian, attending church regularly up to the time of her death, which took placed after a very brief illness at the age of 79 years and eight months, on Wednesday, May 26, at 8 P.M. at the home of her daughter, in Chicago, where brief services were held by the Rev. Dr. Aiken, of the M.E. church at 2 o'clock Friday. She was well known in Chicago and had a large circle of friends.

She was a kind and loving mother and her demise was greatly felt by those who knew her, but God saw fit to take her and she was ready to go.

Her husband, Edward D. Williams, died November 21, 1904, in Hartley. She leaves a sister, Mrs. Ellen Closs, of Wymore, Nebraska, and five children mentioned above to mourn her loss.

The pall bearers were J.S. Webster, E.B. Messer, W.S. Boyce, O.M. Shonkwiler, Chas. Westfall, P. Sitler.
