Wlliam Claus Wiese (1874-1953)

William Claus Wiese, son of Mr. and Mrs. Claus Wiese, was born on March 11, 1874 at Krockau, Germany. His mother died when he was twelve days old. As a child he was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. At the age of seventeen, he and his brother, Peter, came to the United States and settled at Davenport, Iowa.

In 1893, he came to O'Brien County, and here he lived until his death on November 19, 1953, having attained the age of 79 years, 8 months, 11 days. His sudden death was caused by a heart attack.

On February 28, 1899, he was married to Caroline Meier and to this union were born nine children, eight of whom survive. In 1949, Mr. and Mrs. Wiese celebrated their golden wedding anniversary, a day to which he had long looked forward.

In 1935, Mr. and Mrs. Wiese sold their farm south of Hartley and moved to town where they have since lived.

He leaves to mourn his passing his widow, Lena, eight children, Ella (Mrs. John Trojahn) of Milford, Arnold of Hartley, Sadie (Mrs. Dick Allano) of San Hose, California, Harry of Hartley, Nellie (Mrs. Hermand Mohni) of Everly, Edna (Mrs.Leonard Ward) of Inglewood, California, Arlene (Mrs. Sid Terpstra) of Hartley, Donald of Van Nuys, California; five sons-in-law, three daughters-in-law, twenty grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren; one brother, Herman of Estherville, and one sister, Mrs. Emil Brehmer of Hartley, besides numerous other relatives and friends. Two brothers, Ben and Peter, preceded him in death.

Interment was in Pleasant View Cemetery at Hartley.
