Charles John DeBoer (1937-1999)

Charles John DeBoer, the son of William and Nelva (Strootman) DeBoer, was born in Kandiyohi County, near Prinsburg. Minn., on Nov. 11,1937. He lived his youth in Sibley and was a graduate of the Sibley Christian School and Western Christian High School at Hull, la. Chuck continued his education at Dordt College, Calvin College, and Drake University.

He was united in marriage to Esther Runia on Aug.4,1959, at the Ocheyedan Christian Reformed Church at Ocheyedan, Ia. Chuck had been employed as a meat cutter In Sioux City, Ia., a teacher and principal at Prairie City, Ia., a principal and teacher at the Sanborn Christian School for 29 years, and most recently was employed as a semi hauler of Russells Ready Mix of Orange City.

He died at the Northwest Iowa Health Center at Sheldon, Ia. on December 20, 1999 at the age of 62 years, one month and nine days.

Chuck is survived by his wife: Esther of Sanborn; his children: Nancy and Jim Wesselink of Sanborn, Karen and James Venhuizen of Corpus Christi, Tex., Curtis DeBoer of West Salem, Wisc, Paul and Stephanie DeBoer of Ankeny, and Linda DeBoer and her fiance, Travis Schoby of Worthing, S.D.; eight grandchildren: [redacted]; his parents: William and Nelva DeBoer of Sibley, two brothers and their wives: Jan and Connie DeBoer of Ocheyedan and Willis and Linda DeBoer of Spirit Lake, and one sister and her husband: Glenda and Larry Reinke of Spirit Lake.

He was a member of the Sanborn Christian Reformed Church where he had served as an elder, a deacon at the Sloux City Christian Reformed Church, the Sanborn Library Board, and various Christian School, and non-public school agencies and boards. Chuck had also served for six years on the CRC Board of Publications.

Memorial services were conducted at the Christian Reformed Church of Sanborn. Wednesday, December 22, 1999 at 7:00 p.m. Rev. Dale Fopma officiated. Interment was in the Roseland Cemetery of Sanborn with the Sanborn Funeral Home in charge of all arrangements. A time of fellowship and lunch followed.
