After seven years of suffering, Miss Minnie Muhs, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Peter Muhs, passed away at her home south of Hartley last Friday morning.
Miss Muhs had been confined to her bed more or less the last year of her life with Bright's disease which resulted in dropsy and everything possible had been done to restore her health, but all without avail. Her only wish was that she might be able to assist her mother about the home, whose health was not the best.
Minnie Muhs was born January 22, 1901 in Omega township, O'Brien County, Iowa, and died February 26, 1915, at the farm home south of Hartley, aged 14 years, 1 month, 5 days. She is survived by her father, mother, three brothers, Julius, Emil, Herbert, and many relatives and friends.
Minnie was being reared in a beautiful home where there was a plenty for her, and where she might have lived many years, and developed into noble womanhood, and her genial character, for as a child she surely possessed it. It is said that death leaves a shining mark, and in passing away of Minnie the truth of this saying is brought home to us. In her life, in her school life, she was loved, respected, and honored. The Master seemed to have given her not only a kindly disposition, but also a strength of of character from which the best of womanhood is developed. Her affliction was severe, for some months she bore it patiently. It is given to some to live a full life in a few years. The most beautiful and fragrant flowers were short lived. They are natured with infinite care by the hand of the Creator to bloom for a day; what joy, what fragrance from such a flower. Short lived tho it be, the world was made brighter and happier by her presence. She will still have a warm place in the heart of her family, tho gone on before, she lives in the memory of all who knew her.
