Palmer "Pink" Strampe passed on October 16, 2016 at age 89. Palmer was born in Paullina, IA, and served in the US Navy at the end of WWII after marrying Betty in 1945.
Throughout his life, Pink was an avid sportsman, craftsman, and tinkerer. He was trained as a watch maker and jeweler and owned a jewelry store in Clarinda, IA for several years. The family moved to San Luis Obispo, CA, in 1962. They owned a small farm in Templeton for a bit and finally moved to Pismo Beach where he retired in 1989 from the county as a Purchasing Agent after 23 years of service. There Pink expanded his passions by refurbishing a classic 30' Monterey fishing boat that he named the "Fidget".
Palmer is survived by his wife Betty of seventy-one years; sons Jim and Greg Strampe, both of San Luis Obispo; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild, and siblings, Homer Strampe and Donna Rotzler.
He was preceded in death by his daughter Delores "Dee" Strampe.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
