Grace Goldie McCauley was born March 9, 1890 at Early, Iowa to Charles and Mary Glisbee Hotchkiss. The family moved to Hartley when she was young.

In 1913 she was united in marriage to Winn Byers at Hartley. Mr. Byers passed away in 1921. In 1926 she married Frank McCauley at Spencer, and they made their home on a farm near Hartley. They moved to a farm near Spirit Lake in 1945 where they lived until moving into town in 1966. In 1973 Grace moved to Fairmont, Minnesota to live with her daughter.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church, U.M.W. , a 50-year member and Past Worthy Matron of the Order of Eastern Star, a member of the Semper Fidelus class, and a member of Zeta Beta.

She passed away on December 11, 1977 at the Fairmont Community Hospital at the age of 87. She is survived by her daughter (Mary), Mrs. Eugene Zellmer of Fairmont; two grandchildren, David and Sara, and other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank in 1970, one son and one brother.

Services were held at Wesley Place, United Methodist Church. Spirit Lake, Iowa on Dec. 14 at 11:00 a.m. with interment at Pleasant View Cemetery, Hartley, Iowa.
